I hear your frustration. Sometimes (just sometimes?) stocks
just don't behave logically. Sometimes it is context.
My parents are long retired. They're the GIC generation.
They're being offered around 2%. With taxes and inflation
they're getting a negative return. Telus just cut its
dividend by more than fifty percent. Sherrit cut its dividend by fifty percent. It's harder and harder to find
a common stock that pays a decent dividend and even those
stocks are taking a beating. Take Abitibi, for instance.
Lot of brokerage support. By all reports a good company
but the price drop is absolutely wicked. Or Noranda.
There's quite a list. NF is still paying its regular
dividend but I wonder how long they can keep doing that.
Paper and pulp are being trashed. So is mining. Pipelines
are holing up TRP PIF.UN but if the present trend

Give all of the above (groan, weep) SHN's present dividend
looks good. If all the stocks are ugly, then you pick the
least ugly rather than the most beautiful. You sound though
as if you've got your eye on some trusts that are still
beautiful or might become so.

continues
for another six months they'll be under pressure.
