Todd- I also have followed Altera for years. Long term I think they have a great product in a growing industry. As I see it, there is a significant inventory problem with Altera's customers and it is very unclear when that problem will end. Altera's management piecemealed the bad news and probably made it worse than if they should have. The problem is - what will mark the turning point of the "inventory correction". LSI has a similar problem and a few months ago stated that they expected June 1996 for the problem to be resolved. I don't think it is. Near term, from now til October, I believe it is a seasonally weak period for Altera (last year was an exception) due to a slowing in Europe. A stronger than expected quarterly earnings report, combined with a very upbeat conference call, plus general strength in other semi's are what is needed. If this does not happen, then it will be at least one more quarter befor momentum is positive. Comments welcome. Cal
