The security force at the gates of the The Trident Nuclear Submarine base near where I live, is a private company, 'Johnson Controls'.
It's not logical to assume that private security means lousy pay, high turnover, and lousy performance. Whoever signs the contracts and hires these companies (I'm assuming the airlines), must adhere to high standards of excellence.
Whether they're government employees, or private sector ones, the industry needs to be monitored and held accountable for poor performance. From what I understand, the FAA has been remise in focusing on this area of safety.
I doubt they will be in the future.
Practically all of the problems related to aircraft hijackings could be prevented by having a sealed bullet proof double door cabin for the pilots. Then, it's just a matter of monitoring who you hire as pilots. Which, by the way, from what I've heard, some are green card holders. |
