It just stands to reason that in the initial rounds of what will become a larger, protracted campaign success or failure can come in various forms. Even if the article is correct in that Rangers ran into much stiffer defense than what their intel said they would, you'd have to call it a win to escape without a scratch. You also learn your intel is unreliable. That is something you want to know before engaging on a much larger scale. I've read some reports that Pakistani ISI is not quite the prime source we thought it was.
