CNN, ABC News, and the BBC were the only news outlets selected by Afghan rulers to take a tour of Kandahar. This article says that "Reporters on the scene and news executives in the United States said that winning entry to the tour depended on being a news outlet that the Afghan rulers wanted to use to convey their message." Fox, NBC, and CBS didn't make the cut. nytimes.com
