Federal oversight certainly has a place. And the FAA needs to do a better job.

Here's the problem with your "only one way works" logic flapjack. If federal workers are the only ones who can inspect bags safely, why risk having private pilots, private stewards, private maintenance workers, private coffee shops inside the baggage areas, private cleaning crews, and private construction workers fixing the terminals?

The problem with 9/11 had nothing to do with the state of our baggage inspection system. Why are you inferring otherwise?

Would having federal workers prevented the tragedy? If so, how?

Having said that, how does Armey *risk* airline safety by not hiring federal baggage inspectors?
