Published: Nov 1, 2001

ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) - Fighter jets escorted a Northwest Airlines jetliner with 73 people to Detroit Metropolitan Airport on Thursday because of a security risk.
Flight 191 from Reagan Washington National Airport to Minneapolis was diverted because of the security problem, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Spokesman Tony Molinaro wouldn't describe the threat, but WXYZ-TV reported a threatening note was discovered in a magazine by a passenger.

The plane landed at 10:16 a.m., Molinaro said.

Passengers were being transferred to other flights, WJBK-TV reported.
