Sort of off-topic: On the Brits....
You didn't directly ask this, but raised the topic vaguely in a previous post.
The situation, sic cloud hanging over your head, is clearly different here in the UK, they haven't been targetted..yet. But certainly from the day that Britain supported the US, they knew that they were a viable target. At this point in time, they are a bit surprised that London hasn't been hit. So there's a small cloud hanging over Britain.
I can only speculate further. I think if and when the Brits are attacked, they will handle it somewhat better than the US appears to be handling it. There are too many people here that have first and second hand knowledge of the bombings in Britain during WWII. That makes a difference IMO.
These global alerts that something might happen in the US or against US interests sometime soon are absolute non-sense. Do you get people looking out their windows looking for something suspicious? Maybe...I saw someone with a turban put something in a mail box. It's a great tactic if you wish to strike fear into someone. Do you recall that URL on a DoD study that talked about deterrence? How to use fear as a deterrence....tell them something really bad is going to happen, but don't be specific. That's what the global alerts are doing.
Last one for the day....actually probably a few days.
The Brits are and have been great Allies to the US. I get annoyed when I see someone on the thread mock the way the Brits spell. Part of what I do over here is try to convince the Brits that not all Americans are stupid and arrogant. It's people like the above that make that job a little tougher.
If someone wants to torque off a Brit...tell them that the US saved their butt during WWII. The Brits tend to believe that the Allies won WWII, not the US, not the Brits, the Allies won the war....
Global Warming and the Brits.
They believe that global warming is real. They also believe that when the polar ice cap melts as a result, the gulf stream will be disrupted. The projected result is that the area from London to Sweden will become uninhabitable. England fundamentally ceases to exist.
So at the next global warming meeting the US can take the position that Cheney expressed so well. If the Europeans want to hurt their economy, let them. The US is not going to affect their economy.
