Tom's Hardware measures all Pentium 4 chips against all Athlon XP chips.

tomshardware.com

Admittedly, the Athlon XP does quite well against the current Pentium 4. Armed with the highest performing KT266A, and Windows XP, the Athlon XP outscores the Pentium 4 in many tests. On the other hand, the author reports of some instability problems with the Athlon XP platform, while the Pentium 4 platform runs flawlessly.

Altogether, it's a very good recap of current processor performance.
