Another thing is likely to affect mortgage rates during the coming week and over the near term, and that is the federal government's decision to stop selling 30-year Treasury bonds. Immediately after the announcement Wednesday, traders sharply bid up the price of 30-year bonds. It was a simple matter of supply and demand: the supply of 30-year Treasury bonds will decrease, so the price increased.
