joe-- during wwII throwers were used a lot on bunkers. The germans esp liked to build them out of concrete or dig them into rock mountainsides. Bombs at the time were not as effevctive as those of today. So-- Tal builds them bigger, deeper, & longer than the reach of a thrower. The bunkers & caves where throwers were most effective were small & compact compared to large caves and tunnels. The caves dug throughout Nam were tight in the mouth then went into curves before size so throwers were not of much value on them either. Throwers were a great match for lighting food & materials captured. In Nam it was the tunnel rat that went in after Charlie with a .45. Bombs did little good but specially rigged 'dozers 'plowed' many miles of them open.
