Regarding wieghts v. volume.

I think you missed what I am talking about. Volume is more important now because the wieghts are now so low they do not really make much of a difference. For example, say you have a suit case full of foam -- suitcase wieghs 8 pounds, foam wieghs a pound -- if you reduce that wieght by 30 percent (which is twice the differences we are talking) you only reduce the wieght of the case by a third of a pound. On the other hand if you can keep the wieght relatively the same but reduce the size of the breifcase then you really have something. Batteries are "relatively" more important NOW in terms of volume. Percentage improvements possible are more potent from the volume perspective. This is especially so with cell phones. The new polymer batteries for these phones weigh less than 50 grams. Lets assume the best improvmenet of wieght possible today with the best polymers. If one were available now the average person could not detect the improvement because the battery is so light to begin with. However, a volume improvement on the magnitude of the newest polymers would be very noticable--e.i. discernable size differential. Most oems are trying to make their new communciation devices smaller--nokia 9000, q-phone, velo, etc. With the new palm tops and palmtop/subnotebook hybrids this issue has become critical. What do you think?
