Not so sure about phttpt to service. The people I talk to at the "enterprise level" with their Pentium PRo machines are not using any of their Hard Disk capacity. Its all coming from the servers which in many cases are clustered. Thus they have and need service people. CPQ bought this service with Tandem. They have indicated that they will no longer use Dec . One reason is that Chaplin of Dec is changing marketing to better intergrate sales and service thus the multivendor service part of Dec becomes vulnerable. With CPQs manufacturing ability and the merced chip plus Tandem, this could be a real threat to the IBM's, Dec's Sun's and HWP's. But its hard to know for sure and everyone has their opinion. Right now . Sun seems to be handling things quite well and I'm told beating up on HWP. But this could all change next year with the Merced/HWP and Windows NT-5.
