I disagree. I think it was just plain mean.

I think there is too much meanness in the world and way too little tolerance and a willingness to discuss issues, opinions and beliefs in a civil manner. It is not a unique idea that in order to achieve civil discourse, individuals need to refrain from name calling, labeling and stereotyping. America's forefathers understood that concept, although I don't doubt that a few invectives were spoken during the arduous task of drafting our Constitution.

Flinging insults back and forth day after day after day is a game men play. I must admit that I sometimes laugh. Maybe some men can never talk with one another? Maybe they are so far apart that there is no middle ground?

I am not so naive to believe that we will all agree. I am also not so naive to believe that any progress can be achieved without casting aside hatred and mean spiritedness.

Am I being too idealistic? Do I expect too much?

I must admit I am constantly learning about human nature by reading threads at SI.
