Pigboy --

Whoa! That was a fantastic piece of research. Does this mean you'll be moving to one of those neighborhoods just to win your bet? Hey, if I were moving and had to decide between a neighborhood with ADSL and one without, you know which I'd choose.

There were two items that jumped out: first that the ISP had to have ATM (please explain --- I take it PacBell's an ATM system) and secondly that PacBell might lease the modems. There was a press release by Manitoba Telecom yesterday so I went to their web site and discovered they're also leasing initially. Their rationale was that they didn't want their customers to be stuck with the 1.5 modems when the higher-speed versions came along.

I certainly would pay $120 a month to have that kind of speed, but I suspect many will baulk. Wonder how many months/years it'll take to get the montly amount down to $50 or 60.

Thanks for the great research from the trenches.

Cheers!

Pat
