By the time I started classes again, I had the definite sensation that I was dealing with a roomful of house-bound, unwittingly stir-crazy poodles.
OT: campus life
This is terrific barroom talk guys. I love it but, at best, it's only your own experience, a kind of confessional over a set of late night drinks in which the bartender is trying to get you to go home before you've had too much.
The diversity across and within college campuses in this country right now is genuinely mind boggling. You can, almost literally, find whatever you are looking for (and perhaps its twin down the road). Even if you just take the elite campuses, whatever that might mean, you could tell these assertions are wrong by simply watching the academics who show up on television as pundits of a sort. Some don't have a clue (regardless of their or your politics), some do; some are articulate, some remind you of why you wanted to sleep through some of your classes.
I've been faculty member for more years than I wish to publicly count. But I can still recall my undergraduate years which seems to be one of the sources of evidence here. I remember faculty members of great brilliance and ones that couldn't find the bath room.
As for some sort of PC atmosphere on campus, that would be an interesting debate, particularly since it's been debated since the late 80s all to little conclusion, since most of it was ideologically driven. But that should require some permission from our grand potentate, our thread head.
