Data Access Buys BPL's Internet Service Business, Paper Says By Mrinalini Datta
Mumbai, Nov. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Data Access, an associate company of Hong Kong-based Pacific Century Cyberworks Ltd, bought the internet service provider business of India's BPL Innovision Group, the Business Standard reported, citing Siddhartha Ray, managing director of Data Access.
Data Access, which runs the NOW.com portal in India, said it is only buying the internet services provider business and not BPL's internet company. That company, bplnet.com Ltd. will remain part of BPL.
``We have acquired BPL's ISP business with a commitment to continue servicing the customers, but on our terms and conditions,'' the paper quoted Ray as saying.
BPL, which invested one billion rupees ($21 million) in its Internet business, has decided to concentrate on its cellular business. NOW.com will now get access to the southern Indian cities of Hyderabad, Kochi and Coimbatore.
