Correct, but the biggest problem with bears is their own well-being since they are attracted to garbage and other human delicacies. We had a local hiking trail closed because some large grizzlies were acting aggressively. The trail is a couple of miles from my house, near the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Usually grizzlies stay away, but we have way too many black bears. For some insight, check out juneaubears.com When you have a per capita ratio of bear to man as Alaska does, you would be stupid not to have a firearm. M
