Hi E; Thanks for the suicide bomber excerpt. Surely that would indicate that a way of reducing suicide bombing is to remove the financial incentives.

But the other thing that I thought about is what effect suicide bombers have on the suicide rate. That is, are the suicide bombers primarily people who would have quietly slit their wrists in the absence of the religious and financial incentives?

The reason for asking this is to get a handle on just how many potential suicide bombers are out there. The answer that "we just create more when we hit back against terrorism", is inadequate because it clearly fails to take into account the finite number of people available to recruit.
