It costs X amount of money a year to run the government. On that point, I'm sure we can both agree. Under a flat-tax system, people making, say, $500,000 a year would pay significantly less than what they pay now. Hence, the difference would have to be made up by the middle and lower classes.

But there might be a way for a flat-tax system to actually work: Make sure every Big Business pays its fair share.
