I have t shares there at Solomar, Cerritos, Del Rey, & Tropicana. Mazatlan is great, but I always liked to go a bit off season (as you have): the weather is not always consistent in Jan/Feb.

IF you peel and clean your own shrimp--at the plate, as it were--there is a little cantina on the corner 20 yards down from the sidewalk fish ladies. It is called "Regies" (rrreeehees)-gg if you're asking for it. Buy a kilo or two fresh shrimp (the local buyers are very helpful at pointing out the best and freshest) and walk over to the cantina and ask the boss to give them a quick steam. They will bring you sauce as well. Used to be able to order a bucket of 8 beer on ice for about 3 dollars (and what could be better than cerveza with an endless supply of lime). They might add 7 or 8 pesos on the bill for the cooking. Then again, the boss might "buy" you a round of drinks...

This is "local" Mazatlan--friendly and fun...but not for everyone. And if you can't stand cleaning your own shrimp, they will do it for a fee, or you can pass the whole experience. It is not a "tourist" thing so you will be the only dummies there;-)

I've seen the locals put the whole shrimp in their mouth, head and all and separate out the unedible the way we do sunflower seeds. Of course it is just grandstanding for tourists!

I haven't been there for about 3 years. Sort of miss it

Washroms? Yeah, Yang--they got a place you can go!
