I googled a bit on the Khartoum pharma plant and found that the plant was authorized by the UN during the embargo period to sell veterinary supplies to Iraq. It was said to also manufacture aspirin and an antibiotic used for malaria and tb. I'm not aware that there was any US opposition, as someone on the thread reported, to the rebuilding of the plant.

I'll have to ask one of my daughters who is finishing up a second year's tour in Sudan with an NGO--if I can find where the hell she is tonight.
