I am thinking of upgrading from my 3yr old Dell 400 mhz machine. I use this machine exclusively for stock trading activities i.e. real time quotes ( about 500 securities), real time stock charts, surfing stock sites on SI etc. No games or videos or digital photos or business applications. My question is, for the new machine, where would my dollars be best spent : In faster processor speed, bigger memory(I presently have 384 SDRAM), bigger hard drive or what. Also, I have been quite happy with Dell and would like to continue with them, but most of the better deals out there seem to be Compaq or HP or similar. Would I be making a mistake in going for one of those as opposed to Dell? Also, these deals don't offer Windows XP. Should that be a factor in my decision? (I've heard mixed reviews about XP).

Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.
