Amein, I was engaging in discussions to find out why Moslems behave as the do, when most people of other religions don't. But you obviously do not want to provide any concrete answers, and in the typical Arabic fashion, would rather squelch the disagreement.
I don't want to know about Islam, I was more interested in knowing about the followers of Islam, for actions speak louder than words and followers are what make a religion as it is practiced today. I know more about Islam than even most Moslems would. I had read 2 fully translated version of Quran by the age of 17, and then many condensed versions since. I could read and write Arabic too, though not in a colloquial form of the Quran, though I admit having been out of touch for the last few years. I have been brought up with Moslems around me, and have lived with Moslems all my life. Some of my best friends are moderate and non practicing Moslems. And they have better answers than you have been able to provide so far......
And as for racial profiling being an 'irritant' ? Well, if that irritant could save lives, so be it. I guess it is too much to ask the Arab world to get out of this self indulgant behaviour, get over their minor 'irritants' and stop whining about their 'hurt' feelings, coz really its the Americans who must be hurting more and need to be thought about and cared for.
Taking a personal dig at my history lessons is a cheap shot at the best, it just shows that you are at a loss to answer my questions. I said one cannot rest on the laurels of past heroes. Just because my greatgrandfathers were good people, great people, my successive generations cannot keep believing the world owes them something. Interactions with the world and societies are like group bank accounts, you gotta deposit and when there are enough deposits, you withdraw in times of need. And for the last 100s of years, I believe the world has been depositing and the Arab World has been withdrawing...I asked you very seriously, what has their contribution been in the last 100 years ? And how much are they overdrawn ?
I was mesmerised by the tolerance US has shown. Do you comprehend that a Moslem would rather be caught dead than caught saying that Christianity is a peaceful religion ? Or would any practicing Moslem, especially a leader, visit a church to prove the point that they have nothing but good feelings for the Christians or Christianity. And please, I am not a Christian either, so this is not an emotional matter for me. I am just an unbiased spectator here...being neither Christian, nor a Moslem, neither from an Arab country, not from US, someone who has lived in Middle East for 9 long years and enjoyed it, and lived here for only 3 and enjoyed as much.
Sometimes, people have to accept the wrongs of their community, and make amends. And yes, the pendulum does swing too far, but thats just how it is. And shutting off voices of dissent by any means, only works in the Arabic world...not anywhere else. But I will respect your wishes, for I have come to realise that like so many of your fellow Moslems around the world you are paying lip service to this issue of solidarity with the coalition. So I am outta here.
Enjoy the doctored exchanges.... |
