If IM not mistaken, dosnt turbo tax simply log the short transactions the same as it does longs? In other words, is there actually a way to label it a short sale? or are you just referring to how it imports the data?

I remember going back and forth with the tax thread here and intuit about that.. and Turbo tax dosnt actually have an option to label a transaction a short sale so your simply just entering it as a buy/sell, rather then a buy to cover etc etc..

Maybe IM nuts.. IM still waiting to get flagged/phone call from the IRS.. when I first got real aggressive with trading, I got my ass handed to me and when I prepared my taxes I had no intention of ever looking at stocks again.. Out of anger/stupidity, I threw away over $20,000 in loses and so obviously my numbers didnt jive.. IM sure I could file an amendment but just never got around to it and here I am today and could use that carry over.. One day it will be interesting to see if the government forces me to put that 20k back on as a loss-carryover..
