Ah, yes. If it will not sell newspapers or attract viewers, it's not news and doesn't belong in print or on TV or radio. The fact that much more important matters are taking place is simply lost. And Congress and state legislatures take advantage of this- -they slip unpopular measures through while everyone is distracted by something else.

Another consequence is that good deeds and good events get litlle coverage. They simply cannot compete with explosions and sex.

And ultimately the blame lies with we in the American public. If we were not interested and intrigued by this sort of thing, they would not cover it.
