Some critics even argue that modern U.S. tactics transfer the risks of combat from the combatants to civilians.

It is the Taliban who is trying their best to transfer risk of combat from themselves to civilians.
It is the Taliban who wants the world to think the only Afghans dying there are civilians.
It is the Taliban's propaganda that spreads we haven't hurt them in the slightest.

Anybody believing this is playing the Taliban's fool.

As far as D'Haig's comments. The war he waged in VietNam was sad to say the least. Who is supposed to depend on him for expert advise? Forget tons of ground troops. The Taliban will continue to use civilians for shields. We'll still be accused of killing civilians and not Taliban. We aren't interested in taking the country. Just destroying the elements there propagating global terrorism. The mission is simple: Destroy the Destroyers. Not another Vietnam mess.
