Tom, I tend to be a contrarian (or maybe just contrary) investor. I started selling off my long portfolio in 1998-1999 and was heavily short in 2000. But I switched gears and started rebuilding a long portfolio after 9/11. Now I am only shorting scam stocks and buying quality stocks. Yes, I started shorting the bubble too early but did OK with it, and I may be starting to buy the crash too early but staying with a plan usually beats trying to time the market.

When the news is uniformly bad, it is time to buy!
