But it does point out that the US has failed to make its side of the equation better understood in the Arab world....

I think that most of the world believes that Kuwait was more about oil than anthing else. Kosovo was more about stability in Europe than it was about the Muslims. Somalia was good, but didn't most of the conservatives oppose action in Somalia because it wasn't in US interests?

The PR work is going to be a major uphill battle and without anything else, forget it.

One other aspect I didn't mention is that we should expect that somewhere between hundreds of thousands to upwards of a million Afghans will die of starvation this winter. God be willing the numbers will be lower.

The Muslim suggestion to stop the bombing during Ramadan had nothing to do with Ramadan. It was a suggestion to the US as a politically acceptable exit [sic, save face] to feed the Afghan refugees. I'm pretty sure that the Muslim world knows that they have fought wars through Ramadan before. It was an "opportunity" to demonstrate to the Muslim world that the US does give a damn about the Afghan people.

The US has taken their position.
