In response to your question "will it pay for the remaining players to "stick it out" at this time and persevere, or to diversify elsewhere temporarily and then return to it at some later time"

Probably. You won't lose the skills over time. About 50-75% of the players I know have moved out of the divisions already...back to gas, coal, oil, ect. So, they will still have jobs and if the market does pick up they are still working in the same place. It's a little different for us average joe telecom dudes whose fall back is going back into general sales (ugh, icky).

I was diversified back into collocation, but there are more than a few players with empty floor space sitting around, and I'm too small of a fish to convince management to move the business plan around to use the space for other purposes (back up technical space like we mentioned). More accurately, I don't want to expend the energy when I'm trying to get bank loans to start up my Jiffy Lube.
