hijack the election
You forgot the part where Republicans led by Harris delayed and delayed while getting DeLay's goon squad into position to attack the senior citizens of Florida. After it was clear that the Florida Supreme Court would not cave in to these terrorist tactics the Repubicans had to get Scalia to completely ignore the election and appoint GWB the winner. His official reasoning was that a recount might show that Gore one (which it apparently has).
