filo, Better piece was salman rushdie in fridays NYTimes. To paraphrase this is a war for the soul of islam. To blame all islam's misfortune on US does not help. A war between modernity and the middle ages for control of islam. I was encouraged this weekend about the complete isolation of bin laden which caused him to lash out at the UN and all arab states. No one has been overthrow or even in danger. The US is stepping up the war as we speak and i think the use of special ops to id civilian targets turned military as the hotel in kabul we hit today augurs well. I think we will now begin to see the beginning of the melting away of taliban support outside and within afghanistan. Hardline taliban and el quaid will head for the hills as a guerilla force. We will use all hi tech at our disposal to hit them thruout the winter. I think this weekend will prove to have been a milestone. I also expect an imposed peace settlement in the mideast with guarantees for israel and complete recogniton by all states signing the peace treaty. Even Syria may be involved as they get back Golan as dmz area with US/nato troops for a specified period of time. Now if we could add some of the othere hot spots to the peace formula(india-pak) or the route out terrorists(indonesia and the phillipines) formula our world may return to normal quicker that anyone might expect.
