Man, that article is heart-rending. Why, why, did our CIA ever help arm, train, and fund bin Laden and the Taliban, and back their jihad against the Soviets? Was the expediency of protecting the land route to Big Oil country really worth the horror that the Afghan people have been put through by our puppet jihadists? Is the fate of the five million or so Afghans who will die this winter justified by our fight to control our fossil fuel supplies?

Instead, couldn't we have just reinstated funding for the alternative energy research programs that Reagan slashed by 90%?

Of course not. Rhetorical question.
