It's so obvious, isn't it Mark?

Here's another "obvious" thing I missed until you helped us all out:

Swedish Match is a large company and doesn't include every little business decision that they make in their interim report. Here are some excerpts from the President of Swedish Match's annual address to Shareholders. If you take these comments together with the interim report, it is obvious that the joint venture with Gum Tech is one of their most important ventures.

So you can imagine how shocked I was when you wrote this:

I still think that they will launch nicotine gum albeit not with Swedish Match

I'm sure the folks at Swedish Match will regret their failure to launch a product with GUMM just as much as the folks at Zengen will regret pocketing a quick few million for the incredibly valuable Zicam product portfolio. Obtuse people like me tend to believe that S-M was only interested in GUMM for the same reason Wrigley was, i.e. because of their manufacturing capacity. S-M couldn't get out of the deal fast enough once that was gone. In any event, I've got to admire how quickly GUMM management works. They whisked that Wrigley cash off the balance sheet in a New York minute.

But hey, go ahead and short GUMM based on your logic.

That's the Zimmerman theory of investing. Everyone is compelled to be either long or short this company. They should put the stock price on the front page of the Wall Street Journal every day so its legions of followers can keep up with it. If I ever do short this company again, it will be after they announce the next great thing and pump up the price. But they're not going to be able to do that again based on claiming the cure for the common cold, they've milked that one for all it's worth.

You've been saying forever that this isn't a one product company, and huge profits are just around the corner. Well, here we are at the end of 2001 and what we have is ... a money losing one product company. I marvel at how you can watch your predictions crumble over and over and still come back as arrogant as ever, sneering at the blindness of people who don't share your special perceptions. Amazing.
