Alcatel and Tripath Execute Multi-Year Agreement to Develop ADSL Central Office Solutions Tripath Also to Utilize Alcatel's Wafer Fabs in Oudenaarde, Belgium As Second Source BRUSSELS, Belgium and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Tripath Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: TRPH - news), creators of Digital Power Processing (DPP®) technology, and Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA; NYSE: ALA), the world's leading provider of asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) chip sets, today announced the signing of a long term collaborative agreement to jointly develop, market and sell ADSL central office (CO) reference designs. The two companies united their Best-of-Class technologies to offer ADSL CO equipment manufacturers the best value proposition available.
Combining Alcatel's widely deployed DynaMiTe(TM) ADSL chipset with Tripath's low power consumption line driver DPP technology, addresses the major needs of ADSL CO equipment manufacturers: interoperability, density and power. Alcatel's MTK-20850, an 8-line ADSL chipset available on the market since March 2001, was the first reference design using both companies' top class technologies. The two companies will continue to further optimize end-to-end line card solutions for next generation products. Per terms of the agreement, Tripath will also receive a second fabrication source at Alcatel's wafer fabs in Oudenaarde, Belgium.
Andy Melder, Vice President Marketing & Corporate Business Development of Tripath, stated, ``We are very pleased to be teaming with Alcatel on their current and future ADSL CO solutions. We believe that this collaborative agreement with the technology and market leader in DSL, coupled with our unique low power line driver technology, will provide the marketplace with the CO solution of choice. Additionally Alcatel's strong process technology and our collective decision to jointly manufacture Tripath's line driver products at the wafer fabrication facilities in Oudenaarde, Belgium provides Tripath with another strong base for developing our family of DSL line driver solutions.''
``Our Octal solution enabled us to be the first to reach the 1 watt per line barrier. By further solidifying our agreement with Tripath, we can further reduce the power consumption of our ADSL central office solutions to lower levels,'' said Leon Cloetens, Vice President/General Manager for Alcatel's microelectronics wireline solutions. ``Tripath's unique low power consumption line driver enables us to set a new benchmark for high-density ADSL CO systems that will benefit markets worldwide.''
