I had the opportunity to hear Fonda speak at a college I attended in 1971. The vets in the audience were well aware of her Hanoi visit and while most of the sordid details were not known in 1971, her reactions to questions from veterans at that time indicate to me that this "urban legend" is for the most part true.

I would also note that these veterans were not ROTC guys in uniform, but young men who served in Vietnam, many of whom became very disillusioned by the experience and turned "hippie" when they came home. Some of these vets even went to Peace demonstrations.
Even so, NONE of them liked Hanoi Jane one bit.

I believe the "urban legend" here is the revisionist history you mention.
