AMD INTRODUCES INDUSTRY'S FASTEST 128MB FLASH MEMORY DEVICE

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Nov. 6, 2001--AMD (NYSE:AMD) today introduced
the Am29PDL128, the industry's first x32, high density, 128Mb NOR
flash memory device.
A high-performance page-mode interface with access times of 25
nanoseconds enables data throughput rates that are 2-3 times greater
than those of competing products. Built using AMD's 0.17-micron flash
memory process, the device offers a selectable x16/x32 data bus and
features AMD's award winning simultaneous read/write architecture.
This combination of high throughput, high density, and low power
consumption makes this device the ideal choice for advanced cellular
phones, two-way pagers and automotive applications.
Leading-edge automotive, portable and cellular applications
require high-performance, flash memory solutions that ensures data
integrity over the life of a system. The Am29PDL128 utilizes a proven
architecture to deliver industry-leading levels of endurance and data
retention and enables a new category of high end products.
"Automotive manufacturers committed to providing consumers with a
safer, smarter, and 'connected' driving experience are incorporating
GPS navigation, interactive voice response systems, and other advanced
telematics into dashboard applications," said Kevin Plouse, vice
president of technical marketing and business development for AMD's
Memory Group. "The high storage capacity, the wide x32 data bus, and
the high-performance of the Am29PDL128 make it ideal for leading
automotive dashboard applications."
"Designers of high-end hand-held devices are using advanced
communication protocols such as GPRS to offer features such as instant
and short messaging in their systems," Plouse continued. "The
Am29PDL128 enables advanced portable devices by offering a
high-performance, true hardware simultaneous read/write, low-power
flash memory solution."

Features and Packaging:

AMD's Am29PDL128 is a 3.0 volt-only Flash memory device
manufactured on AMD's advanced 0.17-micron process technology, and is
the industry's first x32, high density 128Mb NOR device. The device
offers true hardware simultaneous read/write, 25 nanosecond page-mode
read access and 70 nanosecond random asynchronous access, and delivers
industry-leading data transfer rates. The Am29PDL128 is available in
AMD's innovative new Fortified BallGrid Array package. This package
offers large 0.6mm diameter balls and 1.0mm pitch, a first in Flash,
for unmatched board-level reliability, easy routing, and extremely
conservative design rules. As a result, OEMs can deliver reliable
products quickly to market while using low-cost PCB solutions.

Price and Availability

The Am29PDL128 is available now and is priced at $25 in 10,000
piece quantities.

About AMD Flash Memory Devices

AMD technology is employed by the world's largest producer of
Flash memory devices, Fujitsu AMD Semiconductor Ltd. (FASL). AMD Flash
memory products encompass a broad spectrum of densities and features
to support a wide range of markets. AMD Flash memory customers
represent leaders in the automotive, networking, telecommunications,
and handheld mobile terminal markets. AMD offers many Flash memory
products, such as the award-winning Simultaneous Read-Write (SRW)
product family; Super Low Voltage 1.8V Flash memory devices; and
Burst- and Page-Mode devices. AMD developed the robust Known Good Die
(KGD) program and the patented negative gate erase technology, and
refined the industry-standard Fine-pitch Ball Grid Array.
All AMD Flash memory devices are guaranteed by AMD for a minimum
of one million write cycles per sector and 20 years' data retention,
making them the most reliable non-volatile memory devices in the
industry.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department
of Energy awarded AMD an ENERGY STAR(R) Certificate of Recognition for
its energy-efficient flash memory devices. Products with the ENERGY
STAR label are designed to use less energy, save money and help
protect the environment.
