I am most suspicious of the California State AG. As I noted yesterday, he really may not be in it for a victory. My guess is his constituents (SUNW, ORCL) really want a media circus around Microsoft as long as possible. My hunch is that he knows there is really no way to get a more favorable deal; just hopes that the media attention will hurt MSFT's public image like it did when the witnesses appeared in Jackson's court. As for the other state AGs that are opposed, they may just be trying to grab some political points; too bad they don't realize that stance will hurt them at the next election. The public can easily differentiate between big tobacco and Microsoft. I can understand why California wants to still press on but can't understand why some of the others do, realizing the very little potential there for something better than the existing deal.
