Intel and HP and Red Hat, etc., are SEEDING the educational institutions with ITaniums. This has been a standard practice since the early IBM days of shipping their first transistorized computers. Undergrads and grad students then have the opportunity to hone their programming skills on a new piece of hardware - providing a pool of TRAINED IA 64 PROGRAMMERS when they graduate. Maybe one day we'll see a Hamster POS fobbed off on a college !!
