Legend, Big Blue link up on storage products
Wednesday, November 7, 2001

Legend Holdings and IBM have established a strategic pact to bring IBM's high-end storage products to the mainland market.

Legend will integrate and market IBM's RAID and storage subsystem technology, including Mylex server-based RAID controllers and external storage enclosures, and subsystems including ProFibre Storage Arrays.

IBM will provide Legend with marketing, and technical training and support. Legend did not specify the value or duration of the deal and although it referred to the agreement as an OEM (original equipment manufacture) partnership, the firm did not confirm which company would produce the equipment.

"Legend's entry into the storage arena will enhance our capability in providing applications and services to corporate clients. Legend values the flexibility of IBM's building-block approach, giving us the ability to choose the level of integration and value-added that best suits our needs," Legend senior vice-president Qiao Song said.

ProFibre Storage Array subsystems support entry-level to mid-range servers and storage systems used by companies needing online transaction processing and Web query retrieval.
