Combjelly, Re: Itanium SRAM chip prices.

Here is a quote I see from your link.

"The suggested list price for a 333MHz device is $165 in 10K quantities for 1H99. In addition to the 8Mbit Late Write device, Motorola plans to expand its HiPerMOS product portfolio very rapidly with the introduction of a 4Mbit Late Write SRAM and an 8Mbit Dual Data Rate unit in the second quarter of 1999."

This looks like it was written in 1998. You don't suppose that prices could have changed from that time, do you?

The point is that trying to second guess Intel's per processor cost for Itanium is futile. The fact is that they make a ton of profit on every chip sold. While my personal guess is $200 for the cost of a bulk packaged CPU, there is nothing to affirm that either way.

I can only assert that you are probably way off in assuming that the SRAM represents the majority of the cost of the CPU.
