Hubert, you are certainly not alone in your thinking. How well I remember October '87. But there could be an alternate scenario which might include a mild correction, say 15%, followed by a period of a couple of years of little or no increase in the total market cap. Bear in mind (pun intended!) that much of the increase in total market capitalization is restricted to the large cap sector. The Russel 2000 has lagged far behind the spectacular runup in the Dow. I can't understand how people could put their money in stocks like KO!

Having said all of that, I still think it is best to stay fully invested in quality companies and just ride out market vicissitudes. But given your frame of mind, I can well understand your decision to stay in cash.
