Your states' rights argument falls flat on its face when one examines abortion and gun control. Legalized abortion is the law of the land, yet the Republicans argue a state has a right to impose its own limits vis-a-vis abortion. On the subject of gun control, the Repugs adopt an opposite strategy. They scream that the right to bear arms is untouchable because it is the law of the land, and neither states nor municipalities have a right to modify this "God-given right." Hogwash. It's all about individual issues, not principles.
