Zaeef regrets ban on briefings...... :o)
ISLAMABAD: Afghan Ambassasdor in Pakistan Abdus Salam Zaeef on Wednesday regretted the Pakistan ban on his daily Press briefings and said that these briefings were also helping Pakistan and the world to understand the barbaric bombings in Afghanistan.

Speaking to editors of national dailies here, he said facts were being revealed in these briefings and Pakistan was using a different standard for Taliban while the US consultate in Peshawar had been allowed to issue a daily bulletin in Pushtu using foul language against the Taliban.

Zaeef demanded: "If we are banned, US should also be banned. We only presented our story of victimization to the world. We were getting the sympathies of the world and chances of peace were increasing."

The Taliban leader said with the Northern Alliance, US, Russian and Indian generals were fighting in the north who are trying to capture Taliban areas on many fronts. "It was not just for Afghanistan but in the interest of Pakistan as well that we told the truth to the world," he said. "We are ready to talk on all issues with every one but if they want to force their arrogance on us and the Islamic world, then we are not ready. How could we violate Islamic principles and hand over Osama without any proof. We were not given any proof and war was thrust on us," Zaeef said.

He said many Muslims governments were in contact with Taliban but he declined to give their names. "These governments also do not want to be named. The people of Pakistan and the Islamic world have supported us,"he said.

Zaeef said there were no terrorist camps anywhere in Afghanistan and no organization was using our land. "Only the leftover Soviet Mujahideen are there since those days," he maintained.

He said that he had conveyed the ban on briefings to his foreign ministry and instructions were awaited from Kabul for the next line of action. He said that he was not concerned with the UN charter but only wanted to show the world what kind of barbarism was being unleashed on innocent people of Afghanistan. "We were not committing any aggression in these briefings but were just telling our side of the story."
