Who's been "killed off"?

Last I checked Apple was still selling Macs to those who want them. And as many here never tire of pointing out, Linux seems to be thriving. Despite the near-hysteria that greeted the appearance of an MSN icon on the Windows 95 desktop six years ago, I notice AOL has thrived. (Similar prophesies of doom seem to surround Passport these days).

Let's see, Netscape managed to lose market share by basically standing still while MSFT turned IE from a pretty lame also-ran it bought from Spyglass into the feature and performance leader over several years. Nevertheless Netscape still managed to sell itself for $10 billion before the dotcom shell-game collapsed. It's deep-pocketed new owner (AOL) then let it rot. In the meantime there are plenty of other browsers (Opera, Mozilla, Konqueror, etc.) for those who for whatever reason find IE unsatisfactory.

Last I checked Quicken still leads the personal finance software category and Adobe still pretty much owns the desktop publishing and professional graphic design market. Eudora still has a loyal following (I'm one of their customers). RealPlayer is still around, as are MP3 players like MusicMatch and WinAmp.

So please show me a few of the "bloody stumps" you refer to. I can't find any.
