Joe, Re: "My guess would be the broad category of "servers". The performance of servers strongly correlate with SPECint, servers are almost completely independent of processor's SPECfp scores. Based on these 2 metrics, Itanium is strong in the irrelevant category, and weak in the relevant category."

Server apps also favor memory and I/O bandwidth, both of which Itanium has in droves. While it's also beneficial to have a high integer score, high memory and I/O bandwidths imply that the system can scale in performance better with multiple CPUs. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't see much value in the current Itanium system.
