quasi similar story - very quasi....get a call from ATT Broadband offering a great deal on cable modem service, at 1/3 cost of the dsl I have. They say it is always on, always fast, I explain to them that cable modem is shared, so speed depends on lots of stuff, they say no it is always fast, I say please mail me information on the offer, they say they cannot. I say bite my kimchee.
