Re: America as the Great Satan is a metaphor in hands of those who seek to use it as such that will remain largely unaffected by whatever we do or however we act in the ROW.


Seems hopeless and fatalistic. I'd rather think that once the immediate threat of the al-Qaeda cult is extirpated that some thought and effort could go into projecting America's imperial perogatives in a better grade of velvet glove.

PS: As regards clarity in quoting from other Web resources, my convention is to place the URL above the work quoted, and to either italicize the work or to indicate others words with a <Snip>..text...<End Snip> bracketing of attribution. This is the clearest way I know of to segregate my own words from those of other authors. I kinda feel like one of the millions who got snookered by Orson Welles "War of the Worlds" when they didn't hear his warning in the intro that it was only a divertissement. Though I don't think he used exactly that word.
