General Magic Works with Industry Leaders to Offer Complete Voice Application Solution Sets
In Response to Voice Market Requirement for Efficient Supply Chain
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 2001--General Magic, Inc. (Nasdaq:GMGC - news), a leader in voice infrastructure software, today announced the formation of a group of voice technology companies who have come together to simplify the voice application infrastructure delivery and support supply chain. In addition to General Magic, the other participants include I-Bus/Phoenix, a subsidiary of Maxwell Technologies (Nasdaq:MXWL - news), Intel and SpeechWorks International, Inc. (Nasdaq:SPWX - news).
The members of this group are looking to streamline the supply chain and eliminate the need for the customer to manage the coordination, version control, testing, integration, installation, and diagnostic support issues created by obtaining required software and hardware technologies from multiple vendors. As the voice industry prepares for the projected growth, the group will look to providing a single source of supply, contact and expertise to enterprises who are voice-enabling a full range of enterprise applications, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and supply chain management, customer relationship management (CRM), service management, order management and fulfillment and m-commerce.
``General Magic's core strategy is focused on accelerating the adoption of voice in the enterprise by creating a software platform that enables Web developers worldwide to quickly and easily build and deploy enterprise voice applications,'' said Kathie Layton, president and CEO of General Magic. ``As we work with our customers on their voice implementation plans, we also hear that there is a growing need for a single, comprehensive, integrated solution that simplifies the buying process and delivers customer-focused, multi-vendor support.''
``We are pleased to be working with this group to advance the growth of the voice market segment,'' said Tim Moynihan, director of enterprise product marketing for the Telecommunications and Embedded Group, Intel Corporation. ``By offering a one-stop shopping experience, best-of-breed option packages, and the assurance of pre-integrated, fully tested releases, this solution set will encourage and support high growth in the voice market.''
``This group addresses the common challenge of managing and coordinating multiple vendors that so many customers face in the market today,'' said Steve Chambers, vice president of marketing for SpeechWorks. ``As a leader committed to unleashing even higher growth in the speech market, we view this as both removing cost and interoperability barriers, as well as providing an integrated solution set that makes it easy for customers to obtain and support all the technologies required to launch their speech services.''
``It is exciting for us to work with these other companies to leverage our experience in integrating complex technologies in power and computing systems,'' said Johni Chan, vice president of engineering at I-Bus/Phoenix. ``We are committed to providing to the voice market supply chain the expected efficiencies and cost savings system integration that we are noted for.''
General Magic will continue to expand this working group to meet customers' needs. For more information about participating, please contact Don Nordloff at General Magic, 408/774-4372.
