Sun's Price Performance Is 31 Percent Higher Than IBM's p690 on SPECjbb2000 Application Benchmark Demolishing IBM's Claims of a Price Advantage
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW - news) today submitted results for the SPECjbb2000 benchmark, using the Sun Fire(TM) 6800 Midframe server and the Solaris(TM) 8 Operating Environment, achieving 174,658 operations per second, Sun's Midframe server beats IBM's fully configured high-end p690 (Regatta) system performance of 169,794. Based on the benchmark configuration list prices, the Sun Fire 6800 server has 31 percent better price performance than the IBM p690/HPC. On the benchmarked configurations Sun has a price performance of $6.37/op/s compared with the IBM at $9.26/op/s. With this result, Sun now holds the top two performance records for SPECjbb2000, the fastest Sun result is in a different league as shown by being 90% faster than the IBM p690.
